ABOUT TOM

Second grade: We took a special photographic paper, kept in a black envelope, and then quickly put it out in the sun with an object on it. In a minute we brought it into a makeshift darkroom and let it develop. An image of that object began to appear in the liquid developer. It was magic! (otherwise known as a photogram) I was hooked.

I think you could say I have been a photographer since that moment in second grade. The materials and the technology have changed quite a bit since then, but my excitement at seeing an image appear, has not changed. My enthusiasm for a photograph that tells a story, conveys an emotion, or gives us a sense of a person, is as strong today as ever. That passion regularly takes me to a range of places that few other professions allow.

I find myself interacting with people in the boardrooms of S&P 500 companies, to feeling the tension in an operating room during a life or death surgery, to the middle of a rushing river in the heartland of our country. All of it, in the quest to bring the best images to my clients. I am ever appreciative of the time I get to spend in other peoples’ worlds. I consider myself one of the lucky ones. Making a living telling the stories of people and places. All I can say is thanks to my subjects, collaborators, and to my clients.
